Carbon Steel Storage Tank Insulation Guidelines
Material Selection Criteria
- Thermal Resistance: Prioritize materials with excellent thermal resistance for media requiring stable temperature maintenance.
- Water Resistance: Select materials with strong water resistance for high humidity or frequent rainfall areas to prevent moisture absorption and corrosion.
- Fire Resistance: Choose flame-retardant insulation materials when storing flammable media to reduce fire risks.
- Durability: Evaluate material durability to ensure it withstands long-term exposure to temperature changes and wind erosion without aging or damage.
Surface Preparation
- Cleaning: Thoroughly clean the outer surface to remove all dust, oil, rust, and other impurities that could affect adhesion.
- Rust Treatment: Apply anti-rust measures to any rust spots to prevent further corrosion under the insulation layer.
- Drying: Ensure the tank surface is completely dry after cleaning to prevent insulation material deterioration over time.
Installation Process
- Precision Fitting: Cut insulation material according to the tank's shape and size, ensuring each piece fits closely without gaps.
- Seam Staggering: When using multiple layers, stagger the seams of adjacent layers to avoid continuous heat transfer channels.
- Secure Fastening: Use appropriate fixing methods (adhesive or mechanical fasteners) to secure the insulation layer against shifting or detachment.
- Curved Surfaces: For curved parts, select flexible materials or cut materials to appropriate shapes to ensure full contact without wrinkles.
Post-Installation Inspection
- Comprehensive Check: Inspect the insulation layer for cracks, gaps, or loose areas and verify all fixing parts are firm with no detachment signs.
- Protective Layer: Consider adding a protective outer layer (waterproof membrane or metal sheet) to shield from external damage, moisture, and UV radiation.
- Maintenance Schedule: Establish regular inspection intervals and promptly repair or replace damaged parts to maintain stable insulation performance.
Note: Proper insulation selection and installation directly affects the tank's thermal insulation efficiency, service life, and operational safety. Always adhere to standard operating procedures.
