How to prevent static electricity accumulation in steel tanks

2025-05-06 Leave a message
The following measures can be taken to prevent static electricity accumulation in steel tanks:
1. Grounding treatment
Install grounding device: set up a special grounding electrode for the steel tank. The grounding electrode should be deep underground and the grounding resistance should meet the requirements of relevant standards, generally not more than 10 ohms. By reliably connecting the tank and the grounding electrode with a grounding wire, static electricity can be introduced into the earth in time to avoid static electricity accumulation on the tank.
Regularly check the grounding: regularly check and maintain the grounding device to check whether the grounding wire is damaged, broken or loosely connected to ensure that the grounding system is always in a good conductive state.
2. Control the flow rate
Reasonably design the pipeline: in the design of the oil delivery pipeline, avoid sudden changes in pipe diameter and sharp bends in the pipeline to reduce turbulence and impact generated when the oil flows in the pipeline, thereby reducing the possibility of static electricity.
Limit the flow rate: strictly control the flow rate of oil entering the steel tank. For example, for oil products that are prone to static electricity, such as gasoline, the flow rate should be limited to less than 1m/s before the pipe inlet is submerged; when the inlet is submerged 200mm, the flow rate can be appropriately increased, but generally should not exceed 4.5m/s.
3. Add antistatic agent
Choose a suitable antistatic agent: According to the properties of the oil stored in the steel tank, select an antistatic agent that matches it. Antistatic agents can reduce the resistivity of oil products, increase their conductivity, and enable static electricity to dissipate faster.
Control the amount of addition: Add antistatic agents to oil products in accordance with the prescribed proportion and method to ensure that the amount of addition is accurate to achieve the best antistatic effect.
4. Use static electricity elimination equipment
Install static eliminators: Install static eliminators at relevant parts of the steel tank, such as feed ports and discharge ports. Static eliminators can generate charges opposite to static electricity, thereby neutralizing static electricity on the surface of oil products or storage tanks and effectively preventing static electricity accumulation.

Regular maintenance of equipment: Regular inspection and maintenance of static elimination equipment to ensure its normal operation and play its due static elimination role.
