Fuel Refueling Procedure
1Prepare Equipment and Inspect Safety Conditions
- Gather necessary equipment including approved fuel transfer hoses, grounding cables, and spill containment kits.
- Inspect the tank's fill port for debris or damage, ensuring the cap and seals are intact.
- Check the refueling truck or supply line for leaks, verifying that all valves are in the closed position.
- Confirm the tank's current fuel level using the monitoring system to avoid overfilling.
- Ensure the area is well-ventilated, free of ignition sources like open flames or sparks.
- Post warning signs to restrict unauthorized access.
2Establish Grounding Connections
- Connect a grounding cable from the storage tank's grounding lug to a dedicated earth ground point.
- Attach a second cable to bond the storage tank and the refueling vehicle or supply source.
- Verify that connections are secure and free of corrosion.
- Ensure electrical continuity between all components.
3Connect Fuel Transfer Equipment
- Align the refueling hose with the tank's fill port, using compatible fittings to ensure a tight seal.
- Avoid forcing connections, which could damage threads or cause leaks.
- If using a pump system, ensure it is rated for diesel fuel and properly primed.
- Open the tank's fill valve partially to allow air venting during initial connection.
- Confirm that all auxiliary valves in the transfer line are closed before proceeding.
4Initiate Fuel Transfer and Monitor Flow
- Open the supply valve on the refueling source gradually, allowing fuel to flow at a controlled rate.
- Monitor the flow rate and tank level in real-time using the tank's level gauge.
- Keep a constant visual check on all connections for signs of leakage.
- Avoid leaving the refueling operation unattended.
5Regulate and Complete the Refueling Process
- As the tank approaches its recommended fill capacity (typically 90%), reduce the flow rate.
- Close the supply valve when the desired level is reached, then close the tank's fill valve.
- Allow residual fuel in the hose to drain back into the supply source before disconnecting.
- Open vent valves temporarily to equalize pressure inside the tank.
6Disconnect Equipment and Perform Post-Refueling Checks
- Remove the grounding and bonding cables in reverse order of connection.
- Securely cap the tank's fill port and stow the transfer hose properly.
- Inspect the fill area for any spilled fuel, using absorbent materials to clean up.
- Record the refueling volume, date, and time in the tank's maintenance log.
- Perform a final check of all valves to ensure they are closed and sealed.
Note: Always follow local safety regulations and company policies when performing refueling operations.
