Gasoline Tank Soundproofing Guide
Effective soundproofing of gasoline tanks requires addressing vibration transmission, fluid sloshing, and structural resonance while maintaining fuel system safety and functionality.
- Step 1 Surface Damping: Apply 2-3mm butyl rubber mats (1.5kg/m²) to tank exterior, covered with 5mm mass-loaded vinyl (MLV) for 5-8dB noise reduction. Use fuel-resistant spray coatings for complex geometries.
- Step 2 Mount Isolation: Install 40-60 Shore A rubber bushings at all contact points. Replace 25% of mounting bolts with spring-loaded isolators rated for 2× the tank's weight.
- Step 3 Slosh Control: Add 3-5 internal baffles (spaced 30-40cm) or fill 15-20% volume with closed-cell polyethylene foam (30kg/m³ density).
- Step 4 Enclosure: Construct 1-2" air-gapped enclosure lined with 50mm acoustic foam (NRC 0.8+). Maintain 5cm² ventilation per liter tank capacity.
Recommended Materials: Butyl rubber (1.5-2.2kg/m²),
MLV barriers (5-10kg/m²),
Nitrile rubber isolators (40-70 Shore A),
Polyethylene foam (30-45kg/m³),
and Fire-rated acoustic foam (ASTM E84 Class A).
Critical Safety Checks: Verify all materials are UL94 HB flame-rated and chemically compatible with gasoline.
Never obstruct tank vents (maintain ≥5mm clearance around all openings).
Pressure test (0.5-1 psi) after modifications and inspect weekly for first month.
