The surface should be hardened to prevent rainwater from eroding and creating mud. It should also have a certain slope to facilitate drainage and prevent accumulated water from seeping into the tank bottom and causing corrosion.

Keeping away from fire and heat sources is a core safety requirement. Avoid open flame work areas, high-temperature equipment, and areas exposed to direct sunlight. Flammable debris, corrosive substances, or other hazardous materials must not be stored nearby. Maintain a sufficient safe distance to reduce the risk of fire or explosion.

Good ventilation is essential. Ensure that volatilized oil and gas from the tank can disperse quickly to prevent accumulation in localized areas, creating safety hazards. Open-air sites should be located in open areas, while enclosed sites should be equipped with forced ventilation to regularly replace the air.

The layout should include operational and emergency access routes. Ensure sufficient space around the tank for daily inspection, maintenance, and refueling. The access routes should be wide enough to accommodate the movement of personnel and equipment, while ensuring smooth access for fire trucks and facilitate emergency response.

Clear warning signs should be posted on the site, indicating no fire, no smoking, and hazardous materials storage, to remind unauthorized personnel to stay away. Firefighting equipment, such as fire extinguishers and fire sand, should also be provided and regularly inspected to ensure they are in good working order to respond to emergencies.
